MM573: Introduction to Youth Leadership
Aim
To introduce basic concepts of Christian leadership and
management as they relate to practical ministry experience.
Content Outline
a. Principles of Christian Leadership
Analyse the dynamics and responsibilities of Christian leadership,
with particular reference to call, motivation, requirements,
responsibilities, skills, style and trials.
b. Management and Ministry
Develop an understanding of the dynamics and requirements
of management in ministry with particular reference to time
and financial management, marketing, planning, delegation,
motivation, decision making, conflict resolution, change management
and discipline.
Assessments
Assessment 1: Case Study (2,000 words): Interview an experienced
pastor/youth pastor about spiritual leadership. Use each of
the workbook sections to frame your own questions. Reflect
on the personal implications of what they say and identify
specific lessons learned which you can apply to your life
and ministry.
Assessment 2: Self Assessment (500 words): Present an outline
of personal management strategies you currently use. Assess
their effectiveness and describe strategies you intend to
implement.
Assessment 3: Practical Project (1,000 words): Plan and lead
an event using the principles and practices of management
outlined in workbook two. Evaluate personal competency and
identify ways to become more effective.
Mode of delivery
Distance study. On site option available in Auckland and
Christchurch semester 1, 2010.
